How do you interpret this structuring phenomenon of French political life? I think that, unfortunately, the vote for the extreme right is very established. This occurred progressively from the mid-1980s. At first, it was largely a protest vote. When I asked my mother why she had voted for [Marine] Le Pen the first time, she told me: "To make a statement." The second time, it was undoubtedly to make a second call for attention. And the third time, it became the natural vote that replaced the vote of yesteryear to the left. This means that what is changing is the entire perception of the world.
